Stalk & Pistil is a sustainable flower farm and design studio in western Maine. We grow specialty cut flowers and create lush, natural and timeless arrangements for weddings, businesses, kitchen tables and more.
Our Style
Our design style is inspired by the delicate floristry of the Renaissance and French Baroque periods. We love wild, loose, abundant and fragrant floral displays that gracefully blend an array of textures.
We believe the most beautiful floral arrangements are created with local and seasonal flowers, and that using materials specific to the season and location of your wedding makes floristry the most impactful and beautiful. Our goal is to bring seasonality into our floral designs to ground you in time and place, heighten your connection to the ambiance of the season, and set the mood for your entire event.
Our STORY
Seven years ago we started this farm. The summer before our wedding, we decided to grow the food for our 125 person reception dinner. We had grown and preserved food in our own homesteading capacity for a few years, and with the land to support our endless pursuit to “do it ourselves,” decided to add flowers to the list of things to grow. We had never grown a flower before — the practical side of us was much more interested in vegetable production, but we tilled a nice flower plot, de-sodded it by hand, hunkered down over spreadsheets, and tried our hardest to make sure every seed was started on the right date and grown in the right conditions to bloom for our wedding. By some miracle, every flower variety we started from seed was ready to be harvested 3 days before our wedding day.
We laugh now, with a few years experience under our belt, that it happened so smoothly — no crop failures, perfect weather, limited bug pressure, and hardly any disease. Starry eyed, high on our success, and admittedly naive to the realities of farming, we started Stalk & Pistil Flower Farm the following year with the intention of specializing in weddings and events, where our love for flowers was originally born.
Since then, we’ve moved our farm and added two spriteful children to our family, Magnus (5) and Francie (2), who are just as eager and passionate about growing flowers as we are.
When we’re not farming, we are obsessive deer hunters, mushroom foragers, and anglers.
